TOPIC: reassurance in California

reassurance in California 1 year, 8 months ago #3764

Hey WBT friends,

I am stepping back in time tomorrow is my first day with kindergarten have not done this grade level in a long time. I have all my whole brain rules down, and watched the videos for reassurance.

Any finial hints, if not off we go.

Hi!
Our Kinder teachers started right out with WBT! They swear by it and this is their first year using it! I teach 4th and prior to that 6th grade for 12 years. I can tell you so far so good and the kids really love it!

Just remember, that at the beginning of the year in Kinder, you need to practice EVERYTHING over and over in a variety of ways. Sing, chant, clap move, and repeat. Give one-step directions, and have them repeat the direction to you and to each other. Teach procedures for everything, from how to unpack their backpack to how to get their tray in the cafeteria to how to use the restroom, flush, and wash!!! The first month of school is exhausting, yet in the rewarding way, similar to how one feels after an intense workout regimen!!! You are helping students set routines and strategies for success!!! Their hearts are open and their minds are like sponges, and YOU are the one they want to please!
Don't forget: Kinder teachers need comfy shoes, yummy snacks, and CHOCOLATE!!!
Let us know how it goes! Thanks for teaching KINDER!!!

Annette how is it going in Kindergarten? I notice such a big improvement in our Kinders in such a short time! They know the rules, recite them when called, are lining up so much more quickly, and just seem so much more routine oriented! Are you seeing the same?

Hey, everyone thanks heaps for all the help. Yes, things are getting better, but trust me it is baby steps. We had our "open house" this past week and talking with the parents I think will greatly help. I have also started being consistant on good day notes and you need time to practice at home notes.
All in all I think this will help get things rolling.

Good news
class "yes" is better
hands and eyes is better (basket, basket basket really helps)
We have gone through and about memorized all 5 rules, better
Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat, better

We have trouble with lining up, and walking in line
We still talk to our neighbor at the rug
Raise your hand for permission to speak (we tried talk to help this)
We forget not to shout "yes" even with silly voice reminders and we yell out NO< NO< NO as I approach the frownie board.

Let's see I ended the week with one long hot bath and soft music plus I think my bedtime is even earlier than a Kindersgarteners
