WBT is very effective with ESL! Using gestures reinforces the concept even when the student has not yet completely mastered the language. By using "teach-ok" students are gaining multiple opportunities for oral language practice. In WBT, we scaffold information, and break the teaching into smaller chunks. This is terrific for our ELLs. ESL strategies ask the students to see it, say it, read it, and write it. WBT incorporates all of these in a fun, no-fail atmosphere. The power pix for the state standards are fantastic resources for our ELLs, because they provide that visual "hook" for students to refer to. My ELLs make great gains in their language, reading, and writing skills, and WBT is a contributor to their success.
