I just joined the new Whole Brain Teaching (WBT) website. This is my second year teaching and I just discovered WBT about 3 months ago. I teach kindergarten in Tucson, AZ in the Sunnyside School Distict. I am totally hooked on it and what wonders it has done for my class! If there is anyone else from Arizona, I would love to hear from you!

Sorry:( , I'm not from Arizona--Alabama. I too have recently discovered Whole Brain Teaching (WBT) (I teach 1st). Do you use it all day or just parts of the day when you are attempting to teach a concept?

Thanks!

Oh, no problem. It's great to hear from others. I use it all day. I have found it works best when I am consistent with it. I have not implemented everything because I just started about 2 months ago. The one's I use more often are class/yes, hands/eyes, switch and the scoreboard. I want to use much more of WBT next fall, I think it will be easier then to give the rules and everything. I am going to try some of the games next week, so I will let you know how it works!

I teach 7th grade science in Dysart School District (Surprise, AZ near Phoenix). I found WBT about 3 months ago and I have seen some wonderful things from my kids. I use pieces of it now (class/yes, teach/okay, switch, hand and eyes, a few of the 7 illustrious brain toys, super speed math and reading for bellwork, and I'm building cards for mind soccer) but I look forward to implementing the whole structure next year. I'm lucky to have some amazing teachers at my K-8 school that have started using WBT and a wonderful principal who loves what she's seeing from our kids.

kjkujawa, is there a place on this website that explains brain toys? I am interested in learning more about them.

I'm in Sedona with a Kdg ELL class and I use WBT. It has been a great way to get my students to focus. We use the 5 rules and I have modified them a little for my situation and level but basicly they are the same. After looking at all of the lessons on the home site I can see that there are still things that I can put into place. I like the rule about keep the teacher happy. I haven't used that one yet but you can bet that when I revise them for next year I will include it.
I've heard that the WBT conference is great and I'd like to attend in the future.
Nice to hear that someone else in the state is using WBT.

Hello Arizona Whole Brain Teachers!

I just found WBT about a month ago and have started using it in my 7th grade math classes at Derst Wind Middle School in Maricopa (south of Phoenix), AZ. This is my second year of teaching and my first in 7th grade. I taught in high school in IL last year. I am having pretty good success with what I have used so far. Mostly I use class/yes, hands and eyes, gestures, teach/okay, and switch. Like you, I plan on studying it more over the summer and implementing the full thing next school year.

I am planning on attending the First National Conference for Whole Brain Teaching (WBT) in June in Louisiana. I am excited and really looking forward to meeting teachers who already use the system and who have more experience than I have. I want to be the best teacher I can be, and I think that WBT is the way to go. 7th graders, perhaps all middle school kids, seem to be a breed of their own, so I am enjoying how well the system is working so far. It can only get better from here!

HI there, I was wondering what school you teach at, as I am also in the Dysart School district. I am a second grade teacher at Western Peaks. I love this program and would would love to find out if there are going to be any conferences in the area that will help me understand how to really use the program. I used it in and out of the school year last year and for a few of my off students it worked great. The SuperSpeed really helped my students improve their Dibels scores which was great.

I am at Sunset Hills. I teach 7th grade science, but there is at least one second grade teacher at SHES who uses WBT and it has done wonders with her kids.

I'm sorry that it took me so long to see this. I don't think there is anything on the website to explain this. I have something written up about it, but it's back home. When I get back from vaca I'll be sure to post it to you. Again, sorry for the massive delay.

I went to the three-day First National Convention for Whole Brain Teaching that was held in Louisiana. It was fabulous! Chris Biffle and the others were wonderful in presenting the entire WBT program using the WBT techniques to do it. I can still remember the 9 periods of civilization (or whatever he called it) and the history lesson on Father Serra (not sure of spelling) and the missions in California. I never knew these before! These techniques really work.

If you check the calendar regularly for seminars offered, you might want to take the time to go to one. They are free and well worth your time!

I work at Northwest Christian school teaching 5th grade. School is on 43rd ave and Bell road. I am so excited to see how this works for my class and hope to attend a conference this coming year. I would love to meet others that use this in AZ and maybe even try to get a conference around this area.

Hello and welcome all to WBT. I am out in Colorado but would love to offer any support you may need. Feel free to contact me if you need some ideas or creative ways to get more people on this fun cruise called WBT!

We've done workshops at Settler's Point and Thompson Ranch, both in AZ. Hopefully you can connect with some of those wonderful folks.
