TOPIC: Anyone in the Bay Area ?

Anyone in the Bay Area ? 2 years, 10 months ago #1389

Hi-

I heard about this last year but never got around to trying it out, busy with a combo class. I have a combo class again and would love to implement this. Anyone in the area already doing this that would like to sit and chat, I would be so grateful.

Hey Karen,
Glad to see another Bay Area whole-brainer out there! Hi! I'm in Berkeley; you?
Check out my post from a few weeks ago ("Looking for teachers in Sac/ Bay Area) to see if any of it resonates with you...basically, I was a Whole Brain Sub for most of the last school year and loved it (went to the last CA conference as well), and am now in grad school earning my Credential and Masters in Ed and would love to see if we can collaborate in some way. I need lots of classrom observation hours, and of course, student teaching, and would be happy to figure this thing out together, if you would do me the honor and we seem like a good fit. What grades do you teach in combo?

Mike

PS >> Any other Bay Area or Sacramento Whole Brain Teachers out there? Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Hi Mike-

I would love to talk to someone about this in the area. I teach in Sunnyvale during the school year. I am actually teaching summer school, so I am going to give the speed math and reading a test run.

How to come up with the gestures? questions that I haven't realized yet...hahaha

Let's talk-

Karen-
Would love to come down to Sunnyvale during the school year, chat about Whole Brain Teaching, and observe your class. I think it would be fun, and a great honor for me, as a grad student. Hi there!

I'm in San Jose and teaching in West San Jose / Saratoga. I am going to be a first year teacher at a "progressive" parent participation school, so I'm looking to implement what I can without over-extending myself too much.

If anyone decides to meet, I'd be interested!

Best regards,
Melissa Mayes

Melissa-

I would love to get together. I think we are in the same boat. Let's plan a time to get together and see how we can support each other through getting this started in our classrooms.

Hi Mike-

Let's definitely get together and talk about this. It sounds like you have more knowledge than me on this topic. Here's my regular email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hey ScrapBunny-
I'm over the hill from you, in North Berkeley. It'd be great to talk about WB teaching with you. I am at the moment a full-time WholeBrain Sub, and am earning my Master's in Ed. and a Credential. I'm aiming to teach Gr. 3-5 when I graduate. What grade do you teach?

Hello Mike, Karen and Melissa
I just ran across your posts about WBT in the bay area. I am now living in the bay area after a year of teaching overseas as well as 5 previous years of WBT experience in Southern California. I actually used to help present with Chris Biffle at his seminars in SoCal before my year abroad (for K-2). If any of you want to get together I would love to discuss WBT methods. I am currently in Richmond. Hope to get together with you guys soon!

Hey Heather-
Good to hear from you! You are those closest Whole Brainer to me yet- I live in North Berkeley/ Kensington and am a sub for The West Contra Costa District. We've got a little Bay Area club going now. Sounds like you are really comfortable with the methods. Are you teaching in WCCUSD (or any other district) this coming year?

Hi Mike,
I am not teaching for the upcoming year, after my year of teaching overseas I am taking some time to help raise my brother's kids and to reevaluate things a little. The following year I plan to return full-time to the classroom. I am quite busy for the next couple of weeks but as soon as I can I will post a little meeting time for our interested bay area followers. How has your experience with WBT been so far?

I really want to get teach ok going better this year. I'm also going to be using Daily 5 /CAFE in my classroom so I know this year is going to be full of engagment and learning

Hello there from Woodland,
I'd love to share ideas with experienced WBT users. I've been teaching for almost 10 years and found last year's group my greatest challenge.
I'd love ideas I can use with my ESL second graders.

Hi Bay Area Whole Brainers!

I used the then power teaching methods with my first graders last year and lo-o-oved it!!! I loved the results it got me, as well! Wonderful focus and structure with a VERY challenging class and teaching position. I love the name change to WBT - it really illustrates what we access when we use these methods. This year, I'll be moving up to the big kids - teaching 4th grade and am super stoked about it! Ready for a new challenge after having taught 1st grade for seven years.

I would love to get together if anyone decides to! I teach in Oakland. I can be reached at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Happy Summer!

Heather-
I love WBT! I think it's a great idea to gather some Bay Area folks; I'm totally on board. Would love to meet all of you, share ideas, and perhaps visit your classrooms.

Hi Everyone-

I have been on vacation for a couple of weeks. I am doing a math training this week, but would love to get together and be able to start using these methods at the start of the school year. I go back August 25th.

Hello all Bay Area WBT's!!!!
I know most of you are starting school right about now so how about we get together to discuss some ways to make our school year one to be proud of?
I am thinking of meeting on Sunday (August 30th) at 2:00 PM at 33 Revolutions Coffee Shop in El Cerrito (10086 San Pablo Ave El Cerrito CA 94530). It is located right by the El Cerrito Plaza BART station.
Please let me know if this works for any of you and let me know if you are able to make it. I am excited to meet all of you and discuss the new year!
Hope to hear from you soon!

How are all of our Bay Area WBT's (or wibbits)? How's the year going so far? Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out with your Whole Brain Teaching experience.
