TOPIC: Sacramento WB?

Sacramento WB? 2 years, 10 months ago #1420

Hello WB Community,

I am a first year teacher in the Sacramento area. I would really like to use WB teaching in my 2/3 class. I recently observed a veteran teacher using WB aspects in their class and became very interested. However this teacher did not employ all of the techniques and was not well versed in the philosophy. So I am wondering if anyone could give me more insight into what it takes to be a WB teacher. What are some of the things that helped you to get started and if you are here in Sacramento and would be willing to meet with me to share ideas or information that would be great!

Thanks,
Ashleigh

Dear Ashleigh-
Welcome to Whole Brain Teaching! You'll find that you and your kids will love it. I'm a grad student in elementary education (in Sac) and am also earning a credential, aiming for grades 4-6 when I start teaching my own class. I attended the last Whole Brain conference in Sacramento, and have been using the method since January as a long-term sub in my district. I would love to share information and practice the WB techniques with you, and it would be an honor if we could mix that in with me observing your 2/3 class a few days next year as part of my required classroom observations. Let me know what you think, either on this board, or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Best,
Mike

Hi Ashleigh,

I'm a high school special ed teacher and am going to use WBT this year as a newbie. I would be interested in doing some teacher to teacher therapy/support if nothing else. Our first student day in Woodland is Thursday 8/13. Have a great teaching year.

To all my fellow new teachers and those new to WB, hello! I will be beginning my 5th year of teaching on Sept. 8th, teaching Special Ed. RSP/SDC Language Arts to 7th and 8th grade students. I too will be starting the year off with WB, after attending the conference in Sacramento. I would also love to hear from and support my fellow teachers with this program. I would also like to open my classroom to observations of the program...but probably would like about a week or so to get my feet wet:P

After having attended the conference and reading the manual, I am very excited and pumped to have this learning method in my classroom. I too would like more insight into what it takes to be a WB teacher....but I honestly beleive that anyone that has taken the time to go to the training, review all of the wonderful videos available on line, along with the website...is already 98% there...I applaud those people who are willing to try something new, especially something like WB; Mr. Biffle was able to get a bunch of SCUSD teachers responding with yes, ok, etc...anyone can make this program work...just remember in your heart, you are moving forward to help your students be all that they can be!

Howdy Fellow Sacramento users....

I wasn't able to use the program as I wanted last year, but starting Sept. 7th, I'm going to be all WBT all the time. I'm looking for any advise, suggestions, guidance in signals that I can use for my 7th and 8th grade LD students. I would love to connect with fellow Sacramento/Stockton/Lodi area teachers! The more the merrier....Oh YEAH!

How is WBT going now after 5 months of the school year? I'm at a school where we're all using it, and I absolutely love it. I've seen more advancement with my students in all areas this year than any other year. I still feel that I'm learning, and I still feel exhausted at the end of each day, but the kids are learning and that's what matters. I'm in Esparto, west of Woodland. I'll be attending the web seminars. Hope to see some of you there!
