I'm so excited with the success of the WBT techniques so far that I just want to share (don't mean to be hogging to board ).

So we had two weeks of only the scoreboard and it was a great foundation to teach the kids the rules. I felt like it was necessary to start the Practice Cards when I noticed that some individual students were intentionally trying to push the class off track.

It's only been two days, but I am already seeing the beauty of the practice cards. First of all it is such a positive experience. No lecturing, nagging, or ill feelings. The kids just know that they "need to practice". Its ok because everybody needs to practice things from time to time and it will help them do better next time. Some students may get upset and cause more problems when they have to "change their color", but it appears that the practice cards may alleviate this problem partly due to the shere levity of practicing the rule over and over for 2 minutes with the silly gestures!

Sounds like you are having a great start!!! Keep up the enthusiasm and the hard work! I remember last year, my first year WBT, and I too hit that two or three week mark are thought I needed to bring out the practice cards. Heck this year I thought was going to be the same!!!! However, I caution you not to jump levels "too quick". As so many have told me over and over...IT IS A LONG YEAR!!!!

Even this year, when I thought those few who just wouldn't get "on board" with the scoreboard were going to push me into breaking out the practice cards the second week of school, I have made myself stick it out! I used the scoring system to give each of my kiddos a score and then averaged them together to get the class score. The next week I did the same...and I saw an increase in our average...so that told me that as a class we were improving even when a few might not be. It helped me see that it was working...and now at the end of the fourth week...I am seeing the "few" are finally breaking down!!! Check this process in the WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING EBOOK and you will be able to "see" your progress with each individual child and it really helps keep you motivated!!!!

Keep it up and can we give her a TEN FINGER WOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks Farrah!

Oh, and I'm glad you reminded me about the ebook. I've forgotten to take a look at that yet!
