TOPIC: New Students

New Students 1 year, 7 months ago #4111

I am getting a new student on Monday. Does anyone have any tips on how I should get the new student up to speed? We just ended our first quarter, so by now my class is fairly good at using the WBT strategies. My plan is to have the students teach and model for the new student. Since most students have never been introduced to WBT, I don't want to overwhelm the newbie. I want it to be a smooth transition.

I recently got a new student as well. I did not take the time to explain everything to her. When it was time to use partners, I made sure she had a partner who knew what to do and would help her along. If it was something we do as a class, I would just say, class let's tell "Jane" how we do ....She did not seem overwhelmed and it seemed to work just fine. Hope that helps:)

I also have gotten new students during this past few weeks...and we just ended our first quarter as well...I didn't take time out to reteach...After a few days the students knew the rules and procedures better than some of veteran students...but then again...when you PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! They can't help but pick it up!

I have gotten 3 new students and didn't explain a thing. I wanted to see what they would do. At first they thought we were from outerspace but after two or three days its like they have been doing it since the begining. So many kids have bought in that they pick up the new students and tell them how much fun they have everyday. They teach the new ones go figure.

Hey!

I had a new student today too and her mom told me after school that she wanted to stay at school because it was so much fun! All because of WBT! I was so happy! The mom seemed really pleased that they had chosen to come to our school!

Thanks for all the tips! My new student seemed to adjust really well. The first day he seemed a little confused. He told me several times his other teacher did not do this "stuff". However, by day three he was already raising his hand to mirror words for the class. I agree with Farrah, practicing is the key!! After a week, he already seems like he's been with us for weeks.
