TOPIC: I have a question

I have a question 1 year, 1 month ago #5195

Dear, Whole Brain Team I am really glad I found your website, since then my way of viewing teaching has changed, I have been applying your method for just few weeks and I love it, but have many questions.
Ohh, I forgot to tell you that I am a Spanish teacher and I am fostering it in my language, (clase - si) y (listos para ensenar - listos).
Ok, one of my biggest concerns is how to mix the whole brain teaching techniques with all the other activities, like working in the books, developing the writing skills, I mean my point is that if during my 60 minute period class the students have to be teaching each other all the time.
I am so sorry if I am using your method the wrong way, but it is new for me.
Thank you for your kind answers, and whatever it takes I want to continue with this practice and supporting your website.

I am not one of the experts, but can tell you how I got started. I used the video's to help me get the technicque down.

Then I down-loaded all of the E materials I could. I did a lot of reading.

I took my "old" ways of doing class structure and wrote them down, I placed the new WBT method in their place.

I made some little cards with helpsies on them for me, and then I dove right in.

It did not go "perfect" but you have to do what the kids do, practice, practice and practice.

When the sessions that were just done on line come out, study them and see how to apply your curriculum to them. It will work out, and ask for help.

Also remember that you do not have to replace 100% of what you already do. If you have activities that work really well incorporate a WBT approach to them, or do them the way you always have. The coolest thing about WBT is its flexibiliy

Do not try to make a whole cloth transition to WBT, even if that is your goal in one fell swoop. Take your time. Master and savor each element, play with it, make it your own, and then replace, or mix and match what you already do. You have the rest of your career to enjoy the heady power of WBT for instructing your students. It does not have to happen all in a week or two.

I agree! I began a couple of months ago and I'm STILL adding stuff in. My first week I wrote myself a note and stuck it on the computer and it said "Class/yes and scoreboard only". I knew I realllly wanted to dive into all of the strategies, but I also realized if I did that I would risk forgetting some great key elements as well as overwhelm the kids and myself.

I can't begin to tell you how much practice practice practice we have done. As it was my kids were fairly quiet in the hall because I'm pretty strict. Now, with WBT, I have THE quietest class and I'm very proud of that.

I still have questions myself and get frustrated and end up "losing my cool" and when that happens we ALL take a time out, for their sake and my own. I can only get better from here.
