So I just saw my classroom and it has these horrible desk. You know the ones with a chair and table attached to it with a metal bar and a little basket underneath. And they are just lined up in rows. These desks should not be aloud in an elementary classroom. There really is no way to group them because if I put the desks together one student can not get in their seat. I am really hoping I can get other desks but if not there is a possibility I can get tables and chairs do you think the tables and chairs would be the way to go. I think so but then I have to figure out where to put all the books and folders. Oh goodness all the decisions. So what do you all think. Push for the tables.

I only have desk in my classroom and another teacher and myself made some covers for the backs of the chairs out of old blue jeans. We sewed a pocket on them to store folders. I do not think they would hold books but I can try to go to school and take a picture if you would like to see them. I personally would go for the tables instead of those desks. As I'm typing I'm also thinking maybe you could store all of the books in one location, and maybe you could have the students say math book, math book, math book as they got their math books...it might need some more thought?????

Excellent idea with storing the books in one place. Do you have book shelves?

Also, if you get the tables you can always get those long skinny rectangular baskets to hold pencils, highlighters, etc. One of the teachers on our staff velcroed them to the tables last year. It worked out pretty well.

Good luck!

You didn't mention grade level, doesn't really matter all primary kids have to move a lot. Especially WBT kids. Give them space to move, a place to all sit and work with partners and make things eye level. I use my tables only for writing time the rest of the day they are on the floor. Keep asking for help.
