Hey everyone!

I was reading and enjoying the new ebook, Designing Your WBT Model Classroom, and had a question about the Prove It! activity. Are there any examples of this game anywhere? I really like what I know of it so far but am having trouble coming up with questions. I teach 3rd grade. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Chad

Hey Chad!

I know that "Prove It" is a game of sample questions from state tests. They recommend 10 minutes in Math and 10 minutes in Language Arts. Students can use their white boards to prove one answer is correct and prove the other answers are incorrect. I just printed off last years third grade California state sample questions and I will begin with those this year:)

Hope this Helps!!

Hi Chad,

I played Prove It! with my students last year. Heather is right, you use RTQ's from state tests that are multiple choice questions. I had my students solve the problem on their whiteboards, then they had to prove why the other 3 choices were wrong. The Prove It! game allows students to dive deeper into the curriculum while they are using higher level thinking to figure out why the other multiple choice answers are incorrect.

I used RTQ's from the California State Test (CST) as well as a website called www.highstakesmath.com. You can also use RTQ's from other states if you match them up to the standards for your grade level.

We did this everyday and my students even applied it to their CST this year!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Tiffany, Thank -you for the new website! I am going to check it out. I think varying the questions, by using different websites is a wonderful idea! Loving all the suggestions!!!

What are RTQ's? Is that High Stakes Math site subsrription-based or free?

Re: Prove It! 9 months, 3 weeks ago #6949

RTQ's are "Released Test Questions" & highstakesmath.com is a subscription site our district pays for. However, you can google released test questions and find different states versions.

Hey Chad!

I am so excited to use Prove It! in my classroom from the very beginning this year. I know in past years, time slips away and before you know it, there is the test cramming at the very end, so everything gets reviewed before the big test. I believe that Prove It! will be the strategy, so the students can constantly review, each and every day! No more waiting until a few weeks before the big test! This strategy will also be very helpful as teachers use data to drive their instruction, so this will be instant data to let the teacher know who gets it and who needs more practice. For the game, I will use MO released items, as well as, any other test prep questions.
