TOPIC: fist day practice

fist day practice 8 months, 4 weeks ago #7777

Most new routines will be done incorrect on the first day of school. So, the big question do I point this out as my "practice" and then do the correct WBT method. Or, do it right and then practice wrong vs. Right.
I am just trying it out in my at home practice and want to do it the right way.
Thanks all Annette

Annette,

I would point out or demonstrate the wrong way first and then have them practice the right way, all the while praising them for the fabulous job they did! Did I answer your question?

Hey Annette-

On our first day back we obviously had some routines that were done incorrectly, so I had the opportunity for "It's cool," and then we went on. We did demonstrate "wrong" vs. "right," and now we're heading toward our 8th day back with kiddos, and we seem to have our routines down. Of course, we still practice, practice, practice, so that maintain that correctness throughout the year! That's the beauty of WBT! We can quickly review and practice daily to make sure we have our routines and our content! Hope this helps!

Thanks,

I think it's important to explain and model the right way first so that they know what you expect.

The first thing I introduced was class-yes, and the second thing I introduced was the scoreboard. That way I could give immediate/fun feedback on everything else we practiced. There are soooooo many procedures the first day that I ended up mostly only practicing the right way. Later throughout the week we practiced examples and nonexamples.

Thanks I was getting the first day jitters and needed my wibeteer friends to stand with me in procedures, I got it. Now I just have to stick with it and not slump to bad 35 years of teaching habits, I am a changed woman.

Oki Girl,

You only have one "very first day" of teaching. I'm so glad you get to experience yours using WBT. What a way to start you career. I so wish I would have had it back 23 years ago on my "very first day" of teaching.

Good luck to you, and may all you days be as exciting as the first!
