I introduced Level 3 this week. Now, my Second Graders are
trying to give me guff on purpose so everyone will say, "Please, stop" to them. What have I done wrong?????

Loonie, You can take away the Guff counter. I suggest that you stick with the scoreboard until Thanksgiving .
Next, go to practice cards. You should stay with white for a few months, then introduce purple, and finally green. I would have students, who participate in the Guff, do a little mini 30 second practice of the rules, during their recess. Let them watch the other students play while they are practicing the rules. The key motto here is to keep a really big back pocket because it's a long year. Introduce the levels slowly...Let me know if this helps or if you have any further questions.

As always great advice Heather, I also let my class know when we say a rule out loud and give a mighty groan to a individual who is giving me frownies then we are not all being part of the team. We then practice a lot. I also let my students say to their friends, if I don't catch it, they can speak to the student in a commanding voice "stop, I don't like that you're taking away my learning". It is pretty powerful.

Another thing you can do is invoke Rule 5. That's what it's there for. You haven't done anything wrong, they are just trying to find loopholes in the rules. They may not get the guff points for you, but if they earn a frownie for you because of Rule 5, that might shut it down.
