I have some younger students who were having a difficult time with the timing of Teach-Okay. I brought in a metronome and we started clapping in time. Then I wrote on the board teach-clap-okay-clap-turn-talk. We practiced doing this several times to a beat, and it seemed to really help them get it.

This is an interesting idea. I may try something similiar. My K-1 students are having a difficult time getting the clapping down and when to say "okay" as well. Thanks for sharing.

I like this idea. Routines are going to help you stay on task as you move through your year!

Thank you for sharing.

Mine are having trouble with the turn part as I have my rug set up so the sides can turn left or right, they take too long. I may also try this, thank you for sharing.

When I was teaching kinder I would do the clap clap teach, but then when they did their part I did it with them clap clap okay. By being able to watch me it really seemed to help. Then we could add in "trickier" rhythms.

For the full body turn, we used our "fast wheels". We would hold our fast wheels up, show them to our neighbors, grease them up and then turn "lightening speed fast" to our neighbors. This really helped.

Now that I am in second grade, and since I have had alot of my current students before, I tell them that our principal was so kind that she installed swivel chairs and so I have them "swivel" to their neighbor and then back to me. In fact, just for fun, every morning when we review the rules and routines~ we test out the swivels and "get our swivel on" They seem to love it and it is kind of a crack up!!!

Have been using the "greased wheels" for good spin, but I love your change up with "Get your swivel on!!" Second graders do want to please, but today they were over the top great with Teach-Okay! The Smilies were flying onto that Scoreboard!! Cannot imagine teaching without WBT anymore! Thank you Andrea for another "Sizzling" idea!!

Teach! Clap Okay! Clap Turn! Talk! love it, my students tend to say yes instead of okay and they don't turn all the time. Clapping time should be set at a slow pace and then gradually increase the speed until they are super fast!!

I think swivel chairs should be mandatory for all WBT students!!!!
