Went to FL conference on 17th. Myself and 3 4th grade team members. Shared it with our other team members this week, they are now on board to start this with us this upcoming week. I'm excited about this, it's hard to sell veteran teachers on new ideas!
2 of those team members gave a brief intro to WBT at the discipline committee meeting today with the AP and reps from each grade level. Now, my team and I will be introducing the WBT to our whole staff on Tuesday! By the time the rest of the school sees all of the 4th grade classes on sidewalks and in halls using these strategies, they'll surely want to hear more by Tuesday.
Aside from this, our 4th grade/5th grade share a hallway and in the a.m for about 30 minutes we have 2 teachers on hall duty to supervise students until the day begins. We had many troubles with this last year, very loud, some bullying, not staying in correct class area, etc.... students sit outside of their classrooms, they are not just wandering.
This year, they will be able to talk from 7:30 when they arrive until 7:45, but last 10 min will be silent reading time.
So, in casual conversation yesterday another teacher and I talking about WBT said we needed to post some hallway rules. That led to us coming up with the idea to put a chart on a rolling cart that we can hang charts on, and roll up and down the hall and let the whole hall in the a.m play "Bet your friday talk time" If the teachers are winning on Friday, it is a silent morning, but if the kids are winning, they get to talk into the normally silent reading time. Of course, they won't win this first week coming up!
