So, my students have been doing pretty well with the basics of WBT, but I want it better! So, I decided to show them the ~6min video of the 6th grade teacher doing the order of operations lesson. It does a great job of modeling class/yes, teach/okay, scoreboard, mighty groans/oh yeahs, and gestures. Let me tell you, my class LOVED watching this clip and it gave them a great class to model after. My fourth graders were doing the gestures right along with her and making comments like, "Wow, they are fast" "Look how fast they are" "They are doing a really good job." So, I explained to them, that as we move through the year, my hope is that they too will be that good, fast, and attentive. I also told them that I had things I would be working on getting better at as well. I highly recommend showing this if you are able to do so. It's a terrific quick clip that highlights the biggies of beginning WBT. When it was over, I still had kids trying to mimic what they say, and seeing if they could remember the gestures of order of operations, which they haven't even learned in school yet. I had two girls VERY excited that they remembered them all!
