TOPIC: Ideas for the substitute

Ideas for the substitute 6 months, 3 weeks ago #8916

I am currently a substitute in two different school districts and found the WBT while looking up resources for class management. I am a certified teacher, but have been unable to get a job just yet. I wanted to see if there are any other substitutes out there that use this. As a sub we don't exactly get to use long term goals; we're only there for a day or two! I would love to use this system in the classrooms I work in, but need some ideas on how to work the system in my favor.

The Class-Yes and Scoreboard are quick and easy to implement, but any ideas on what goals I can use would be helpful.

Levels are too complex to do for a one day assignment. Any ideas on simplifying Level 2 and 3?

I appreciate any and all suggestions! Hopefully Mr. Biffle will throw a section for substitutes in there somewhere in the future!

I can only respond with God bless our substitutes!,,, I was one and the experience was the best money could not buy. I would do just what you have outlned in your plan, you may want to up the levels by pushing the class for before lunch and after lunch scoreboard work. If you are there more than one day, have them beat their record. I'd use class/yes in as many ways as you can use a class leader to gain the class following. Use those one second parties to add in fun.
Mr. Biffle I know cares about all teachers and I am sure will see you plea. In the mean time Deb Weigle has a cheat sheet for subs, if i can research the site I'll find it for you.

Thanks! I was able to search for it myself and found the sub sheet she made. I just need to do a bit more research and I will be ready to start doing WBT this week. Most of it will be some good old trial and error, but I'm sure I'll be able to modify here and there for the non-WBT classes.

Hoping for a few surprised and enthusiastic students, a few other teachers wondering why we make so much noise, a lot of good notes to the teacher and a lot of call backs. Who knows there may be a job opening in the future for me!
