TOPIC: Skit ideas to boost teacher morale

Skit ideas to boost teacher morale 2 years, 9 months ago #1865

I know this is not a specific WBT question, but I was hoping to get some advice or ideas from my fellow teachers out there. And who better to ask than teachers who seriously care about their jobs (why else would we be here, right).

The morale among my fellow coworkers was REALLY poor at the end of the school year, and when I spoke with my principal about it (several times), he asked me to be on a committee to focus on improving morale (he's a really smart guy, I think). I'm going to have about an hour to present some information during our inservice days. I think it would be cute to start with a short skit, but I am at a loss for ideas. Most of my presentation will be based on the FISH! philosophy which asks a staff to commit to these four goals: choose your attitude, make their day, be there, and play. I've already figured out how to do my short presentation and a team-building activity, but like I said, I think it would be really cute and funny to start with a skit. The only thing I can think of is to "make fun" of ourselves by acting out some typical "bad teacher" stereotype behaviors, but I certainly don't want to offend anybody, and I just cannot find ANYTHING else online.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
S. Michele Holmes

I don't have a specific idea to share with you, but I have seen my fellow teachers do this at one of our meetings and something that I liked was that they had a funny bad example of teaching (like the one you mentioned) and a good example too. This was a nice bridge for them to refer to what the goals were and used the funny one as a teaching point.

So...what did you end up doing? Putting on a different set of lenses to look at things is so powerful. We have added some new things this year and it has created some ruffles. Last week, I took all the teachers to an Improv in downtown Denver. I told the company all about the things teachers were stressed about and they designed the show around that. Everyone laughed and was able to see things in a different light.
