Can you do the Crazy Professor Reading Game with all ages? You have a short story that you teach us at conferences. Do you have any suggestions for what to use with younger kids? For example - 1st-4th?

dianedj, there's absolutely no reason why The Crazy Reading Professor game cannot be used with younger students. In fact I can imagine that 1st and 2nd grade students will probably be much more emphatic with their gestures than older students. As with anything with primary students, you'll need a ton of modeling in order to get them to perform the way you want. I would suggest using a simple story like "Little Red Riding Hood." Something that they're very familiar with. My sixth grade students were given the opportunity to read silently with gestures because they were "too cool" to be reading out loud with gestures. It didn't bother me because I could still tell from their gestures that they were making their way through the story. The key is that they retell what they've just read using their gestures and words. Since they're young, have them summarize after each page. Many ideas...enless opportunities!

I am also imagining that it can be used to read the poem of the week...or a short phonics story. I teach Kindergarten and am going to try it the week after Thanksgiving break! I will let you know how it goes:)

rhopple,
In your post and the video it shows the ages are upper elementary, has anyone reported using the Crazy Professor with middle and high school students? We are in an ESL environment which causes some of our older students to read at rather low levels.

Thanks, Jason
