I have done extensive research and presented on 21st Century Learning. WBT and 21st Century Learning are correlated nicely. Here are a few research points that may be of help:
1. At least 87% of students in any given classroom are not auditory or text-based learners. [Jensen] They are either visual or visual-kinesthetic learners.
2.3M study revealed that when showed 100 photos of people; Digital Dinosaurs recalled 10%, Digital ImmigrantsI recalled 60%, and Digital Natives [our students] recalled 90%. The eyes process and interpret images 6x faster than words!
3. The "Learning Pyramid" focuses on retention rates...5% of lecture, 10% reading, 20% audio-visual, 30% demonstration, 50% discussion group, 75% practice by doing, and 90% teaching others/immediate use. Teach-Okay!!!
All of this operates on a continuum from passive receiving of information and
traditional learning with a primary focus on LOTS (lower order thinking skills)
to active participation and engagement with information, and a focus on HOTS
(higher order thinking skills).
