I was wondering if anybody out there had any ideas on how to modify the Mind Soccer game to a Mind Football game without it being to complicated. Most of my classes are more football fans than soccer fans (yes even the girls - crazy as it sounds) and i wanted to use pretty much the same concepts but with a football twist or slant to it. Thanks.

This is a great idea, and could be used whenever the pro season changes!

Off the top of my head I'm thinking that you would move the ball in a similar fashion, but you have only 4 downs. Maybe in three questions you need to get 2 correct for a 1st down. Of course the idea is that you need to keep it moving and that is one bonus to soccer...that game never stops in real life, and football has a lot of down time.

The rule of all rules could be the same and that is, "keep the ref happy."

Try it and let us know what it's like.

Maybe select a set of slightly harder questions, write them on index cards. Write "Punt" on the back. If a team has to punt from fourth down they can draw one of these cards and the receiving team has to answer the question. The faster, or more completely they answer the farther the punt return was.

I like the idea of having the four down format, but any completion (offensive team answers correctly) is a repeat of down....or in other words, if it's a 3rd down question and the offense gets it correct, it remains 3rd down. If the other team (defense) gets an answer correct, their captain can pull an idex card from a pile (make some defensive cards like sack, interception, fumble recovery, etc...) make sure to make more sacks and stops of some negative yards. What ever the card says determines if the defense gets the ball or not.

I think I'll give this a try...sounds pretty fun.

Wow, all of you are coming up with FANTASTIC ideas!!!! My mind is racing with visions of the great game of Mind Football.

I love the idea of having two questions - one to be answered by the offense and then the other to be answered by the defense. And of course, the result of the down (completion, fumble, interception, etc) is determined if the answers are correct or not. BRILLIANT.

And of course the idea about having cards with punt, interception and fumble on it is perfect. The on the defenses turn they pull a random card like 'interception' and if they get the answer correct the ball is intercepted and now they are the offense. OH, I'm getting excited. This keeps the game going fast too - that's one of the great beauties of Mind Soccer. I don't sit and wait for something on this I want to keep it going fast.

But I am still thinking about the 'downs' part for the offense. I guess they have four downs to stay on offense and try to get a touchdown and the defense has to pull cards and get answers correct to get the ball from them. I just don't want to set up a situation where it is too difficult for anyone to make a touchdown. Please help me with that one. Your responses have been great, I'd to hear more of your ides. Thanks!!

I'm not a fan of football. Football is a game for oafs. Like my two large colleagues that I founded this system with. Soccer, basketball and volleyball are real games requiring finesse, agility, intelligence, all the finest human characteristics. You'll find a download soon called "Mind Sports" that has a variety of games ... and sub-games, like football, posted on this site.

However, to solve the problem of defense pulling cards (which takes time) and the offense never getting four downs ... how about if at the start of the game, each side pulls (oh, very secretly!) three defense cards. These cards can be played on any down of the offense. Of course, intelligent defense would play them when the offense is close to scoring. That would be exciting, if genuine excitement was possible in football.

And, of course, the offense could pull three cards before the game starts: say "30 yard pass," "40 yard run" and "Hail Mary" ... of course, the questions that the ref posed when these cards were played would be extra hard. A great card for both offense and defense would be "Let's go home and play hoops."
