Hi all,

So I was video taping my class and I was having trouble getting things straight in my head about how I wanted things to flow. Here is what I came up with to help with lesson planning. Let me know if I missed anything or if it makes sense:)

Basic Whole Brain Teaching Lesson Plan

Objective
Class/Yes
“Today we are going to…”
“Tell your neighbour what we will learn about today.”

Visual
Show visual.
Predictions. “Look at this picture. Turn to your neighbour and talk about what you think we will be learning today.”

Concept #1

Class/Yes
Mirror Relay concept with gesture.
Magic Mirror Relay concept with gesture.

Teach/Okay “Teach your neighbour what I just taught you. #1’s use big gestures and #2 let me see your listening ears.”
Switch

Extensions

Student Leadership

Class/Yes
Mirror Student relays concept with gesture.
Magic Mirror Student relays concept with gesture.

Teach/Okay “Teach your neighbour what I just taught you. #1’s use big gestures and #2 let me see your listening ears.”
Switch

Compare and Contrast

Concept #2

Class/Yes
Mirror Relay second concept with gesture.
Magic Mirror Relay second concept with gesture.

Teach/Okay
Switch

“Now compare and contrast both concepts. What are some things that are the same and what are some things that are different.”

Vocab Candy

Class/Yes
“Pop a piece of (insert concept) in your mouth and say yum! Then, tell the class a sentence using that word.”

OR

“Pop a piece of (insert concept) in your mouth and say yum. Then, tell the class a sentence using that word and use a because slapper to explain your reasoning.”

Disclaimer - not exactly sure what these involve...but I gave it my best guess!

Air Chalkboard

Class/Yes
“Pretend you are the teacher. Use an Air Chalkboard to explain (insert concept) to an imaginary class.”

Two Finger Action Figures on Desk World

Class/Yes
“Explain (insert concept) using two finger action figures on desk world!

Explain lesson activity.

Closing Options

A. Play Cutie to check for understanding.

B. Play Yes/No Way to check for understanding.

C. Play Mind Soccer to review concepts.

Liann this is a great tool to have. So many times people say, "I just can't remember what order to do things.", and so on. This really lays it out there for people to see this can be done without changing their whole life.

Super job and I hope that others will use this great post!

Power to the Teacher!

Thanks for sharing. I am a novice at this so can you please clarify what Magic Mirror Relay is? Also, for what subject area was this plan created for? Also, what grade do you teach? I teach second grade.

Hi all!

Glad this is useful!

Karen: I teach Grade 1 and this was meant for teaching any one of the Power Pix (Math or LA), or any subject really. The "Magic Mirror Relay" was meant to be: Teacher says "Magic Mirror" and the students reply "Magic Mirror" and then the Teacher and students say/relay the information along with the gesture.)

Hope this makes more sense!

I try to do at least two lessons a day following this format. My goal is to do every lesson this way.

Lately, we've been using a very simple WBT lesson template ... only five steps.
1. State the question to be answered ... "what is a noun?" "how should we line up at recess?" "what is the unit cost rule?
-- teach-okay
2. Give the answer with a gesture.
-- teach-okay
3. Expand the answer with several examples, illustrations, etc ... use teach-okay for as many micro lessons as needed ... brain toys can be used here
-- teach-okay
4. Use the Yes-No Way and then QT tests for comprehension (see the Power Pix downloads for examples) ... if 80% of your students aren't on board, go back to step 3.
5. Use the term defined in a critical thinking task ... either in a sentence frame or comparison/contrast or a brain toy
-- teach-okay
finish by putting up a sheet of typing paper with the concept defined on the wall ... or use a Power Pix ... review frequently

I have been looking for lesson plan ideas and this helps out a lot! Too bad there's only 8 days of school left! I will be using these in the fall! =)

Thank you for the lesson plans. I am moving from Kindergarten to First Grade and I want to be ready to hit the ground running with WBT next year.

Thanks, scrapbunny! This chart is awesome and makes it not only clear what I need to do, but also includes the stuff the admin wants to see (standards, objective, Higher Order Thinking). YOU ROCK!

What would the first week of WBT look like using this format? When you are introducing rules, gestures, etc, all for the first time. Just trying to figure this out....Thanks!

Re: Lesson Planning 9 months, 3 weeks ago #6971

esnover, look at the first steps, and the video of Mr. Biffle explaining them. Then check out the first part of the E book for "challenging kids". I did not say grade level so, if primary take a few rules, gestures and routines a day. If upper grade see how much they can consume in a few days.
Good luck- Annette
