I have a question....where do you put Power Pics, if you do not have the wall space or bulletin boards in your classroom?

Thank you,

Laura,

This last year I put them up on my whiteboard with magnets. Now, I only started using them the last part of the year, so I didn't have very many.

The other suggestion that I heard at a conference was to write them on cards and just post the word (ie: noun), that might take less space than the picture.

Hope this helps.

Another way is to make a power point out of them and either project them or use a smart board to teach them. This will make it easier for them to see. After you have taught it, then you could hang it up. They did it this way at the conference in Phoenix. Hope this helps.

I'm in classroom with very little wall space, so I've had to be very creative with putting up my PowerPix. I went by school yesterday to check my room out, and to see about setting up my Model Classroom. I think I've got it figured out, but it is definitely a work in progress right now. I have two chalkboards in my room, yes chalkboards, and I'm going to divide one in half. On one side, I'm going to cover it with blue grid paper, and the other half is going to have red grid paper for my Communication Arts and Math PowerPix walls. This is going to be a trial year for me with this as this has always been my Word Wall before. I moved my Word Wall close to the floor next to my carpet for shared reading. I have my scoreboard on a small whiteboard that hangs over my front chalkboard. I'm going to use a small bulletin board for my Class leaders board, and a slightly bigger bulletin board for my Genius Ladder. As I said, a work in progress. I'll try to get some pictures when I have more of it complete. Just a few ideas.

Also, can't wait to hear more about the Phoenix conference. Sounds like it was awesome! Be sure to share the new ideas!

Thanks,

Don't forget in all the wall and arrangement plans to include small group areas, line up spaces and the biggie I learned Portable scoreboards!!!!! You can have all the WBT stuff but if there isn't adaquate room or positioning for kid friendly use. . . mighty groan. The carry me everywhere scoreboard really is a must, at least it saved me. Immediate feedback

Annette,
Tell me what you learned about portable scoreboards...I think I need one of those!
I tried to carry the scoreboard around with me, but I was always misplacing it.

I think I need to invent some kind of dorky contraption to solve this problem- I'm imagining a teacher apron with a white board built into the bib and pockets to hold markers. LOL

Allisong,

I use a post-it note for my portable scoreboard! LOL! I'm cheap! Just carry the post-its with you where ever you go and transfer points when you get back to the room! I usually write the number or smilies and frownies on the post-it from the room so I can follow the +/-3 rule even when out of the classroom and know when I transfer that rule will still be in effect!

Well that is a simple, doable solution!
I'll try post-its when school starts.

Great idea Farrah! I don't take my students places, but the personal care aids do. I can supply them with post it's and I will give them the authority to keep score. I'm loving it!

Allisong,
I hope that the recent input about portable scoreboards has helped. Post-it is a great idea, I also remember (sorry no credit I forgot who) someone shared they put a smile and sad face on a chain around their neck and turned it one way or another for "other places" reminders. I used a small whipe off board and gave it to the PE teacher, and the music teacher during my prep time. I also carried it with me when getting them off and on the playground. Farrah is so right it keeps that +3 rule really important.
