TOPIC: Superspeed math/1000

Superspeed math/1000 8 months, 3 weeks ago #7877

I understand that Superspeed math can have different pairs playing each time. With Superspeed 1000 it appears that the same pair must be matched up to reach group goals. Is this true? Is there a way to mix it up?

Another question regarding Super Speed Math...I noticed there is a new E book which added fractions. Is that the only difference?

Both of you have asked two great questions. I'll answer the fastest one first.
kread: The new ebook added the fractions, and then also fixed some minor mistakes that were there from the first version.
tallerteacher: You're correct about the matches for SuperSpeed 1000. You want the kids to stay with the same partner because they are working on a mutual/team goal. There is only really one way to mix it up because we want kids setting and breaking their records. The way that we switch it up is to have each student do it on their own. The game is played exactly the same, they just do it out loud, by themselves. I only do this about every 5-6 times we play. This is great because you're always going to have those kids who want to impress you with their ability, but feel bogged down because their partner is slowing them down.

Power to the Teacher!

Just to add a little more detail to Chris' post... my 5th graders have 5 different partners for S/S Math (one for each of the levels...we haven't introduced the fractions page yet) & then the same partner for S/S Reading. They LOVE it & beg me to play everyday...little do they know they're improving their math fact fluency & reading speed!!!

I also LOVE the idea of them reading to themselves every couple of times. I might try that tomorrow!

I am seeking clarification for SS Math...Do the students set a personal goal every time we work on superspeed and then move down one row the next day if they achieve their goal OR do they achieve their personal goal (and move down one row the next day) by getting at least one more problem correct after completing SS the second time?

Hope this is making sense!

Kread,
once students master the level 2x,then they can move down one line.
Also, they should be working on this mostly at home. As students improve they should be recognized on the Super Improvers Wall. HTH!!

Wondering if anyone could share how they have this organized. I had copied and put everything in page protectors but having all the pages was a little much for my kiddos. Ay advice and suggestions? Thanks

Okigirl,

Are all of the pages in one sheet protector or individual sheet protectors? If they are individual, how about adding a binder ring...that way they are all hooked together.

I have 5th graders and we keep a file folder in each desk with the S/S pages in there.

Hi,
To which ebook are you referring that has corrections and fractions?
Thanks!
