I am seeing 2 students already sticking out as great leaders who model excellent behavior. When should I start using leaders in my class to perform various functions, like calling class-yes and such? I know its a long year and I don't want to do this too soon if it would be better later on.

I'm glad you asked that question Alli! I was just reading over the new Super Improver Wall information and if I follow those rules it won't be for a couple of months. Any advice all you WBT teachers out there?

It depends on the situation really. If you feel like striking now, while the iron is hot so to speak will benefit your class later the start the training now. For instance, if these kids are outstanding and you think that training them now might lead to some of your other kids who show potential for leadership to develop that later, then proceed.

It really depends on what you think is going to benefit your class. Every situation is different and in the end you have to be the judge of when to begin.

Allisong,
Maybe you could start using those leaders for one subject at a time, or an hour at a time, rather than for the whole day, since it's a long year! Have you talked with your class about what makes a good leader, and what a good leader does/does not do? last year, I made anchor charts for this, so we could refer to it and practice leadership in tiny chunks of the day.
Let us know how it goes!
