This week I put a new name card up on the Super Improvers wall...my own! We were having a discussion about making smart choices in my behavior RTI class, and my students kept questioning me about my own life, and I was happy to give examples of times when I've made mistakes dealing with people, or in my life choices, etc. I said, nobody's perfect, we're all learning through our whole life time. The reason you have trouble with some of these teachers is because they haven't learned how to deal with conflict yet either. They said, "Well, if you're always learning, then why aren't you improving?"
"I said, I do! Every day! Let me show you!" and I put up my own card. And I get at least one star a day because every day I am able to find one thing I did better that day than the day before. No better way to model it than to do it.
Normally we don't involve ourselves in our students' activities because we would just totally dominate them. For example, I don't play Mind Soccer with them. But the great thing about the Super Improvers wall is that we're only playing against ourselves, so I can't "beat" them, only lead the way in improving!
