Scientific Method -
- Independent Variable - I make a sign language "I" (little finger up, rest of fingers in a fist). I say this is the variable that "I" change.

- Dependent Variable - I make a sign language "D". I say that the Dependent variable is the Data you collect.

Ecology -
-Producers- I say producers make their own food (act like I'm eating) with energy (roll my arms over each other) from the sun (hold my hands over my head like a big ball).

-Primary Consumers - I hold up my finger to indicate the number 1. I say primary consumers eat producers (eating motion) that make their own food with energy (roll hands) from the sun (hands overhead)

Secondary consumers - I hold up my fingers to indicate #2. I say Secondary consumers eat Primary consumers (#1) or producers etc.

Tertiary Consumers - use #3 fingers and continue as before.

The kids love this. They love to add on. They also love to try and do it faster and faster!

We also love to do MAGMA (hold hands in toward body) and LAVA (push hands up into the air).

Great ideas! I can definitely use those.

I have some gestures for water cycle that go with a song I found on the internet.
You can see my students performing it on my website: mrskaiserspond.weebly.com/pondcasts.html
