Give us your definition for each one ... and the gestures shouldn't be too difficult.

capacity: the maximum amount of liquid a container can hold

volume: the three dimensional space something takes up

organization: one of the 6 Traits of Writing in which a writer focuses on telling the story in the most logical order to match the author's purpose

I am open to varied definitions of each of these. I am not committed to the exact wording. I am just starting to use gestures and it still feels awkward at times. I fully believe in the science behind the method though so I will persevere! I am learning to make new dendrites in MY brain so I can help the kids with their new dendrites!

The following are gestures to use with your definitions:

Capacity- Hold your left hand up, fingers crooked as thought holding a cup. Place your right hand palm down a foot or so below the cup and raise it to the level of the top of your cup.

Volume- Hold your arms out as though giving an air hug to describe the volume.

Organization- Mime putting cards in a row in the air in front of you. You can tell the kids that each card has a part of the story. You could also use the Virtual Blackboard Brain Toy with this one.

For capasity- I make a circle with my arms and make them come together and Say "the amount a container" and I leave one arm in a half circle and use the other arm to act like I"m pouring something into it. Did you teach gallons, quarts, and pints? If so, I have a cute song that I made up and the kids love it!! Hope this helps!!

To the tune of Sally the Camel:
There are 4 quarts in a gallon
There are 4 quarts in a gallon
There are 4 quarts in a gallon
So roll baby roll, Boom boom boom

There are 8 pints in a gallon,
There are 8 pints in a gallon,
There are 8 pints in a gallon,
so roll baby roll, boom boom boom

There are 16 cups in a gallon
There are 16 cups in a gallon
There are 16 cups in a gallon
so roll baby roll, boom boom boom!
