I just started Power Teaching today. There is a noticeable difference in the class’ behavior already. Students are more cooperative. The more “active” students readily and easily follow the directions and I can hear students remind other students that they need to keep their dear teacher happy when they are doing things that aren’t necessarily appropriate. The students were following the rules so well, that during writer’s workshop they were allowed to spread across the classroom to an area all their own and write about whatever they like. There was not a single incident. The last time I tried to let students work this way they were highly talkative crawling around the floor and walking around the room so we had to go back to our desks. One of the students even decided to write about our new rules and gestures as her topic for Writer’s Notebook. I would call today a success!
