Hello, I have researching the Whole Brain website and am very interested in implementing with my 6th comm arts and reading classes this fall. I just took a 3 day Kagan Cooperative Learning workshop through my school district and it was excellent.

Does anyone have anything to say about using both of these approaches simultaneously?

Thanks....Sarah

I like Kagan, I was orginally Kagan trained prior to Whole Brain Teaching - many techniquues are similar, and you could always put a WBT "flare" to any Kagan strategy. What do you think?

I agree. These teaching strategies complement each other.

Sarah, I too attended a 5 day Kagan Workshop summer 2008 and implemented the program and structures fully in my class this past year. After attending a WBT seminar and researching, reading, printing...I intend to implement only the WBT at first just to collect data and prove to myself that it is making a difference and then if so, continue and blend it with what I know works for me with Kagan. I am predicting that a blend of the 2 will make for an incredible teacher and excited high performing students.
I also am thankful to have learned one at at time. Learning and implementing both in the same year may have been a disaster. You know, not really good at either one. I suggest that a teacher only implement one way until mastered and then blend the two.
