I'm Jill. I teach in an urban elementary school and started power teaching my first graders in January. They love it and so do I!

Jill,

I teach 6th grade in Central, PA and after watching several Bifle videos on youtube and discussing it with a fellow 6th grade teacher, we jumped right into in in January and our kids love, and don't want any part of returning to the "old style" of teaching. We are trying to get some other teachers in the building to give it a shot and they are. It has taken some time but they are starting to see the success of it. My principal thinks it's great. Is it spreading in your school or are you the lone soldier so far?

I can't believe an entire month has almost gone by since I posted my introduction. This year is flying by. So far, I am the lone PTeacher in my school. My passion for Power Teaching comes and goes in waves. I think I need to go to a seminar to really get the flavor of how to apply the method to more of my teaching day. It is a kick to be able to get the attention of my class in the noisy cafeteria with a claaaas/yeeees! I do the scoreboard with the guff counter, but I am pretty sure I'm not doing it as consistently or as effectively as I should. I definitely need help thinking of ways to present information for the teach/okay.

Jill, you're in luck! We'll be hosting a Power Teaching seminar in central PA this summer. You can check out the calendar on the website for more information. Please email me if you're interested in attending.

Steve is right, I can't imagine ever going back to the "old style" of teaching since starting PT. Don't let your frustrations stop you from using the methods from Power Teaching. Try to get a group of people at your school together once a month to discuss the methods and to bounce ideas off one another. Gestures are certainly one of the most difficult parts of PT but with practice they'll become second nature. Let me know if you have any questions.

Jill,

My suggestion is to start with one or two small things and master them. I focused a lot of attention on the class yes and teach okay. This is second nature now. I then moved on to the score board. It did take some time, but I am seeing success. I have a student teacher who had similar troubles to yours. When she started out with one or two things, she was able to use power teaching more effectively.
