TOPIC: Not all kids are responsive with class..teach...

Not all kids are responsive with class..teach... 2 years, 8 months ago #2427

Help... Last week was my first week using WBT. I found that only some of the students responded in the manner that I requested. I have to repeated reteach my expectations with a groan then a oh yeah. I am a 9th grade high school teacher. We have only been in school for 8 days. It is normal to not get 98-100% if to students responding. Not all the student do the body turn and gestures.

I have been consistant and very enthusatic. What should I do?

My immediate response would be to really nail them on the score board, and make the reward/consequence something they'll really care about. Consider the ping-pong technique for scoring points.

I totally nail them on the score board. I do the ping pong. For my period 2,4,and 6 they play to leave on time, late or 30 seconds early. I have the problem with my 2 and 4th.

I have found that, with older learners, it usually helps to explain why you are using the techniques. Explain why learning this way is more effective.

What is this ping pong technique?

Re:Not all kids are responsive with class..teach... 2 years, 8 months ago #2456

I believe the ping pong technique is when you bounce the students back and forth on the scoreboard (students v. teacher) to keep motivation high. This helps you to be mindful of the +/- 3 rule and keeps the students guessing...wanting more...

I suggest the same for the scoreboard, keep bouncing back and forth. Don't point out individual students, but say something like, "I'm not hearing a yes from everyone" or "not quick enough, point for me."
