Hi there. I am from Perth, Western Australia and I have started using Power Teaching this year. By the way - Hi to Eric if you read this.

It would be great to see other Power Teachers here in Oz, particularly in Perth. I have been telling teachers at my school about it and hope to share some of my skills as I get more proficient.

Hey Molly,

I'm doing a Grad Dip Ed and have just signed up as a member on this site...

I haven't tried out any techniques yet but I am planning to!

How does it go down with Aussie kids?

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi Molly,

Still going strong with power teaching and loving it. It has added a new dimension to this ye olde teacher pedegodgy.I have found that just using the methods like hands and eyes first thing in the morning or through the day when I want class attention cuts out all the crap of repeating over and over again to listen. It has heaps of behavioural add ons because of the way you use it. Other teachers sometimes laugh at me when I say class class claassss!!!, but who cares, I don't have half the behavioural issues that they have by using it.

All power to power teaching

best wishes

Eric

Hi
I'm doing the bachelor of teaching (grad entry) for secondary science. I am thinking very seriously about using WBT in my next placement. The main problem I had in my last placement was too much talking and ipod use. My supervising teacher kept saying that I could not get any teaching done until I had the class under control. I'm hoping to do my last placement early in term 1, so I will spend the christmas break planning everything.

Cheers
Vicki

Hi Everyone.

I am based in Brisbane and am also interested in finding other teachers using WBT here in Australia. I am new to the method but can see great potential for WBT in my classroom. At this point in the school year, I am preparing to start WBT in 2010.

I would encourage you to start with a few of the element now so that you can get a feel and then you'll start out the 2010 year totally ready with all of the bugs out.

I can see why you would hesitate to start something new at this time, but take some small steps and you'll be fine. Come into class and tell them that they have reached a new level in the year and it's time to step it up! Don't tell them "We're going to start something new..." or "I was reading on the Internet and I found this new program...". They'll eat you up and they won't even try. Tell them that they are now advanced students and this is how I teach my advanced kids.

Start with Class/Yes and the Scoreboard Game. They are both explained in "First Steps" at the top of this page. After they start begging for more, start the Teach/Okay. This is the hardest, but most effective element of WBT. Read up on it also and give it a try.

We are here to help so please keep posting and let us know how it goes.

Power to the Teacher:cheer:

G'Day you lot.
I am using WBT in Canberra and Itold a friend about it and she is using it in her CSIRO teaching program.
What do people think of starting up a WBT in Oz facebook site so we can communicate more easily/
