Hello!
After teaching 6th grade for 2 years, I'm moving down to first grade. I've attended a WBT conference and can't wait to use it with my first grade class.
I used the basic things in sixth grade, but since i had a different class every hour, I found it hard to keep up with procedures.
I'm jumping all in this year! I'm planning on going through the levels beginning on the first day. Any advice for first grade would be wonderful.

You will love teaching 1st grade. I taught that grade for 13 years. I have wished I would have known about WBT while I was still in the classroom with my first graders. (I now teach reading K-5.) Even in this position I have noticed that my younger groups (K-3) all love to do the WBT techniques. It helps keep them on task and works well with their energy level. I also have a lot of success with the 4th graders. It is the 5th grade boys that sometimes act as if they don't want to participate.
As for your class, I would follow the guideline in the free ebooks that address the Big 7. Start with the class-yes and the scoreboard. I would also recommend that you download the Power Pix, both math and com. arts, for 1st grade from the free ebooks. They will address most of your curriculum goals with ready made lessons. I also find the Biffy Tunes, Super Speed 100, and Super Speed Letters & Phonics very helpful in my reading classes with the first graders. I suppect that Super Speed Math and the Smoothy-Bumpy Planet (that title might be slighty different)would also be very good for first grade. I have recommended them to the first grade teachers in my building, and they love them.

Well, well, welcome. You are in good company here in the forum, Farrah Shipley, Deb W. and many others will help you along. I too have jumped from upper to primary. WBT is my saving grace. There is a copy somewhere (I'll get it for you) on the first days in primary. It will start you off. Just remember they are little and things take time. Read the E books, watch the video's and talk here we are all in this together.

Welcome! I teach 3rd grade and my kiddos love WBT! It was a huge success in my class, and I've never enjoyed teaching more than I did this year with implementing WBT into my classroom! Keep checking the forum and you'll get lots of great ideas. Also, make sure that you post questions you have, and you are sure to get an abundance of answers! I know your first graders will love the WBT style, because they are involved in every aspect of the learning process! Let us know how it goes!

Make WBT the main part of your procedures (such as lining up, passing in papers, turning to pages in a book, etc. I'm sure you saw these at the conference you attended). With WBT all the other procedures seem to fall ito place easily.
