TOPIC: workshop

workshop 10 months, 2 weeks ago #6493

I was privileged to see Chris Biffle in action! It was in Victoria Texas just a week ago. It was incredible! I had tried several things on the website previous to the seminar which all were awesome for my classroom management. I used the "class-yes", 5 rules and scoreboard, but now have added understanding of the "pocket chart" and bulls eye. Now I feel that I have added to that knowledge and will be even more effective this next year. In addition, the strategies for reading, math and writing were enlightening. Thank you so much Mr. Biffle for coming to the little town of Victoria, Tx. It would be wonderful if we can get you to come to San Antonio!

Hi cowgirlteacher!

I'm so excited to hear about your wonderful experience at the conference. The website is amazing, but there is something extra you pick up when attending a workshop. It's great to see you on the forum. I hope you stick with it. There are so many great ideas that are shared and questions that are answered on here. Good luck with everything! It sounds likes you're off to a great start!

Thanks,

Hi Cowgirlteacher,

Welcome to the forum. I'm so glad that you had the chance to see Biffle in action. It is a very unique experience. I hope you continue posting on the forum and letting us know how this second year with WBT goes. It will only get better and better.

I had learned from watching videos about the class-yess, score board, crazy professor and stuff. However, I had never come across the steps to use for trouble students that will not follow the rules. For instance, the pocket chart. Instead of just verbally reminding students of the rules when they break one, interupting teaching to remind the repeat offender, the teacher puts a card with the rule number they broke in a pocket chart next to their name. Then at a free time or recess, that student knows he must spend the first few minutes of recess reciting with gestures that rule in which he broke. Saves time, reinforces correct behavior and is a consequence for wrong behavior. Has anyone else ever seen this part on the videos? I also learned about the "bulls eye game". I learned so much! I could go on and on.

I am really excited to try all the new things I learned at the conference! I usually have a class of "difficult" students. Last year was the first year I tried some of these techniques and they worked! I am really excited to see the transformation in this next class! Whoo hoo!!!
