Hello, my name is Amber Nash. I teach READ 180 to 6th and 7th graders in Lexington, KY. I just started WBT this year. I am actually only using it with two out of my three classes becuase I am using WBT for my graduate work action research paper so I'm using my other class as a control group. My class is not considered special education, but it is an intervention class for students who are grade levels behind in reading. So I am interested to see how it will work in a smaller group setting since I have no more than 15 students in a class. So far, so good!

I teach in an academy. We have classes no larger than 17. Most are half of that. WBT works for me as well with these small classes. The problem I have ran into is motivation. With the small classes things can be more calm and quiet.

Have you used SuperSpeed 1000? I love that game for reading!!!

I hope you continue to have success.

Roxi, I am so jealos our classes are 25 at primary and 35 at upper of course there are more kids we try to balance as well as we can. So WBT is not only ""good teaching practice" but a life savor.

Annette,

This is so true, I am blessed. We only teach 5 class periods as well bc we have one hour for teaming and another for planning!!!!!

Roxi,
It's good to hear that this is working for you. I have faced the same problem with my students being hesitant to be loud. I think they are becoming more comfortable with it, though. Similar to you also, I only have 4 classes. Two of my classes are 90 minutes long, though. So I actually think WBT is helping to keep the kids interested during those extended classes. In the past they have always complained about the time and I haven't heard any of those complaints this year.
I just printed off all the material for SuperSpeed 1000 and am hoping to try it in the next few weeks. I am still trying to get the class, and myself, comfortable with the basics first.

Hi Amber,
I am really excited to hear about your graduate project. Regarding the small class, the motivation that works for me is the more enthusiasm I put into the gestures and responses the more the students are willing to take a risk. Middle school kids can be a bit challenging at first until they trust you.
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse... they will get there.
