I teach transition classes for special education students at San Jacinto High School, both RSP and SDC. I took the plunge today with one of my RSP classes. This particular class is the most challenging class I have had for many years. I taught them the class-okay and was amazed at their responses. Of course, I spoke to the scientific research from both a psychological and physiological sense, how it is used in colleges, how it is geared for kinesthetic learners, and how they have advanced to such a level that I thought they had earned the privelege to be treated as college students. I then told them that I know they can be extremely successful in anything they try and I want to give them a head start.
They were a bit skeptical about how the points would work, but when they won they were hooked. Their reward, eating a snack in class. They have to bring the snack and they can eat it. That is one of my hard and fast rules -- no eating in class. Boy did they feel like they put one over on me. We all left class much happier than we have in months.
I'm hooked.
