Hi,
I want to begin to use the scoreboard game but was wondering about rewards - is there a daily reward given at the end of each day if they have more smilies or frownies or do you find that the intrinsic award of the "Mighty Oh Yeah" is enough.

I think it really depends on your kids. Seeing as you're kindergarten, the intrinsic quality of the "Oh yeah!" and Mighty Groan is probably enough.

Just remember two things:

1. The scoreboard is fixed. The class only wins when you want them to. My class generally wins only once or twice a week.

2. Keep rewards, if any, tiny. As Biffle says, it's a long year, and if you start big, the pressure is on to go bigger. When we win, they get a minute of Silent Speed Ball, or a minute's early release to PE. I've actually found that my kids enjoy this game more with that frantic pace.

Hope this helps!

In our Kinder class we use the extra points for recess incentives.

More smileys means we get a "longer" recess and we get to bring out the bikes.

Equal means we get a "Regular" recess and no bikes.

More frownies means we get a "short" recess, no bikes, and a short think time where we have to sit for a full minute with our listening bodies (criss cross, hands and eyes, and a bubble in our mouth) and then we share our ideas for why we got so many frowny points and how to get more smiley points the next day.

If you don't have bikes---think of other fun recess items. Balls, sidewalk chalk, etc. And like the person below said...it is a long year so maybe choose new incentive items every quarter instead of using all of them.
