I just saw youtube video and learned about whole brain teaching.
My question might be answered previously, but I really need to know how..
In video, I saw students line up and say 'line, line, line" and "seat, seat, seat"
as they were walking. I am going to use it in the classroom.
But how about when they are walking in a hallway?
I think that I can do all the way to lining up. (from video)
But I am not sure how I can lead students walk without talking, looking front, and without bothering others.
They can not say 'line, line" all the way to cafeteria.
I have tried the bubble in the mouth. It works great for short distance, but
the students get tired holind the bubble, and "let go" a half way to cafeteria.

Please give me ideas.
I would like to start the whole brain approach on Monday by using five rules, class-yes, and "line, line" "seat, seat" "turn this way' "criss cross applesauce" and walking in line.

thanks

I have been in school for four weeks. When we go line up, we do line, line, line, then I say, "Class", they respond "Yes"! I then say "Bubbles" and "Hands Locked". They place hands behind their back, and put a bubble in their mouth. I ask them to walk so they can see the back of the child's head in front of them (to keep the line straight). We think to ourself "line, line, line" as we go down the hall. If someone breaks the line rule, they have two minutes of think time to say the rule at recess. It's very doable.

Just a twist on what has been previously stated.
I notice that we have to turn corners on my campus quite a bit. I have set up "Landmarks", where the line leader should stop, even when I am not with them at the front of the line. I usually stand at the corner so I can view the whole line, front and back. I then catch up to where the line leader has stopped and say the words, "Line check" and they repeat, "Line Check." They check that they are standing directly behind the person in front of them. I praise or prompt and then we move on. This eliminates stragglers and those that choose to goof around in line.
Hope this gives you just one more idea. It does take practice and modelling....don't forget that piece:blush:

Our first day was Wednesday and I stumbled on or should I say created a rhyme (strange I have taught 24 years and just now cane up with it). I always have trouble with students not watching the person in front of them-thus they walk into one another etc...
so I said:

"Don't look back
or side to side
look staight ahead
so you don't collide" We did gestures too pointing behind us and side to side and then straigh ahead

The kids loved it. Now when we line up we give ourselves a hug, bubble in our mouth and recite our straight ahead rhyme!
