Hey annette!
I agree with Melissa~ I chose a clap pattern then say teach and then I do it with them so they can follow the pattern. The best part is that once they get used to it you can add anything and not do it with them. Better than that~ my kiddos are now answering questions that I ask in class by:
Standing up~ saying Class! (to get the students attention)
Then they get to choose mirrors or mirrors and words and they lead the students to mirror them in their answers (which by the way~ we don't have "Baby talk"~ we speak in "College talk" which is full sentences:)
I have students give a thumbs up or thumbs down in agreement or disagreement. If student is wrong "it's cool", if student is right, the [u]student[u] leads the class in their very own TEach! Okay! (students then teach the answers to their neighbor)> SO COOL!!!!! So in the beginning they are copying their dear teacher in doing TEach Okay! patterns, then they can get it on their own, and now THEY ARE LEADING THE CLASS IN ORIGINAL THINKING ANSWERS! Oh yah!!!
