TOPIC: Presenting...?

Presenting...? 2 years, 3 months ago #2980

CalitoTexas here,

Hopefully I have a thought provoking question here. Has anyone presented to a large group, using WBT, about a non WBT topic. I will be presenting at a technology conference this coming week (teachers, administrators, techno guru's) and have thought about using WBT. The session is only 50 minutes and the only concern I would have is how much to teach my audience about WBT..Should it just be class/yes and turn and teach (or talk to you neighbor)? Thoughts form the forum would be great.

I just saw this today, so I guess your presentation has already happened. I would like to hear how it went? Did you teach any WBT to these folks? If so, which parts and how did they respond? Once I had to do a presentation in my graduate course about a book I had read and I used gestures. I was afraid at first, but my classmates seemed to respond well and I did feel like I had a lot more engagement than other presentations.

Thanks for asking Angela:)

My presentation went very well. I shared my story about how I use mobile technology (Nintendo DSi) in my kindergarten classroom and then showed some examples of we use it.
I was so caught up in only having 50 minutes to share information that, unfortunately, I did not use WBT. Looking back I see a few times in the presentation where I could have used it. It was a great experience though:P

My husband used it in a programming training course that he did with a medical staff. No,he didn't use every aspect of it (not sure how well a bunch of grumpy medical staff would respond to being asked to use Class-Yes! and a scoreboard...), but he used Teach-Okay very heavily. No, he didn't require them to use the call and response, but he chunked up his presentations, and required the staff to review and teach with a partner. He was nervous about doing it, but pleased that it went as well as it did! He was completely exhilarated afterwards!

I have used it in staff meeting when we are asked to present to our colleagues about various strategies and methods that we use. Since my staff knows I'm crazy about WBT, they are used to me asking them to humor me by responding to WBT methods. My most recent presentation was on the use of rubrics when setting student work expectations. With teachers, I use ALLLLL of it, because they 'get it'. Some roll their eyes, but it seems like after every presentation, there's someone else who jumps on board with WBT.
