I love the idea of a super improvers wall, but I had some trouble figuring out how I could adapt this to high school since I have over 150 students.
I have been giving small common assessments (as I'm sure we all do) and showing the growth from the diagnostic test at the beginning of the year. I put each period's growth up on the wall so it says:
Period 1 12% growth
Period 3 6% growth
Period 4 15% growth
Period 5 24% growth
Period 6 20% growth
In addition, next I am working on calculating individual students who grew the most since thier first assessment. This way anyone has a chance to have their name up with each unit, not just the highest grades. In fact, the lower students tend to show the most growth.
