I love the idea of a super improvers wall, but I had some trouble figuring out how I could adapt this to high school since I have over 150 students.
I have been giving small common assessments (as I'm sure we all do) and showing the growth from the diagnostic test at the beginning of the year. I put each period's growth up on the wall so it says:
Period 1 12% growth
Period 3 6% growth
Period 4 15% growth
Period 5 24% growth
Period 6 20% growth

In addition, next I am working on calculating individual students who grew the most since thier first assessment. This way anyone has a chance to have their name up with each unit, not just the highest grades. In fact, the lower students tend to show the most growth.

Great idea, Angela. Middle school or high school you do have to b a bit creative and adapt WBT to fit secondary kids.

Yes, I haven't figured this one out yet, either. I teach Science, and we don't really do pre- and post-testing.....still noodling this one over...

I started my wall 2nd 6 weeks with the students who grew from 1st to 2nd based on report cards. I started it this way as an introduction. From there, I will continue to add stars for behavioral growth as well. I have a basketball themed room and each student's name is put on a bb cut out in the color that corresponds with his or her period.

It has worked pretty well for me. After 5 stars, they get a crazy pic taken and I keep it covered until the next set of 5 stars. So on and so on...
