I am a student teacher in Manitoba Canada that is currently participating in one of my four student teaching practicums. My major goals the last five weeks have all been focused around classroom management techniques. After having a discouraging day in my large Grade 10 class (30 students, 5 on adapted programming) I decided to go searching for ideas.
I found the Whole Brain Teaching videos on YouTube and it was my "ah-ha" moment. I knew immediately that it fit my personality perfectly. I spent all evening searching through more videos, e-books and the forums on this site.
I introduced Whole Brain Teaching today to my Grade 10 class:
- Class-Yes
- Classroom Rules
- Score-board
- Mirror
It went over amazingly well! I had full student participation and engagement. You were right, "Classity-class" makes them laugh every time. I am so inspired. I am working on developing my future lessons around this format now and am so excited to continue these strategies in my class.
Thank you for all the amazing information

Day 2, the success continues! I didn't realize how much FUN 16 year-olds could have while learning geography. They remembered all of our classroom rules and procedures from last week (over a long weekend) and participated without hesitation. I had 2 students who had missed our first class and they had a bit of a culture shock, but they quickly joined in as well.
Both my cooperating teaching and the school principle are now interested in Whole Brain Teaching and I have been sharing the website with whomever will listen. My student teaching placement ends this week on Friday, but I am going to use the time to solidify my knowledge of this teaching method so I can incorporate it again when I student teach fro 7 weeks in the spring.

Thought that I would provide an update, finally!! (I was having computer malfunctions).
I'm officially done my student teaching placement for this semester, sadly. I can't wait to start again in the spring. This time, I will be able to start WBT right from day one! I'm going to be spending the next two months glued to this website and finding out as much as I can to make the experience as beneficial as possible for my students.
I am so happy I was able to find WBT and try it out during my last placement, even if it was for just a few short weeks. My students, my cooperating teacher, the principle and myself all loved it!
I'm attaching a photo of the cake my Grade 10 class brought in for me on my last day of teaching. Its obvious that they loved WBT, "oh yeah!"

xKlx,

Thank you!!! I know of a HS in my area that is using it: West Ouachita. I think another one, Ouachita is as well. I have found some contacts in the HS section on the forum. That has given me a bit of an idea about what HS are in.

I just posted a new video on my blog. Glad to hear you are following. Check it out if you haven't already

I have officially joined the blogging community! I am using the blog as a means to reflect on my learning process (a classroom requirement for many of my courses) and haven chosen to focus my blog around the idea of WBT.
I will be updating about my experiences as an education student and how I can incorporate WBT into what I am learning in my courses. Keep in mind that I am not a computer-wiz and this is my first time trying anything like this but I would love your comments and feedback.
The blog URL is misslwholebrainteaching.weebly.com/
I hope that you will be able to check it out and share your experiences!
Thanks!

UPDATE!

I just started my second student teaching placement and am so excited to introduce them to WBT. I shared WBT with my cooperating teacher a few months ago when we were first communicating and he was so supportive of me using it in the class. Well now I am here, I start teaching on Tuesday and can't wait to get started!
This time around I am in a grade 5 classroom rather than grade 10 so I am really interested in seeing the difference.
I'll be updating my blog about it if you'd like to check it out at www.misslwholebrainteaching.blogspot.com/
