I have been following Whole Brain Teaching for about 2 years. I have been experimenting with these techniques and tweaking them to fit my kiddos. Last year I started "Super Speedy Reading" (my version of Super Speed 100). Each week I send home a sheet with 5 sight words that are repeated in random order. Students practice these each night at home and we also practice them at school. Last year I was BLOWN AWAY by the results! The average words learned was 78-82! (I had introduced 100.) Keep in mind, I teach half-day sessions...which means I only have these kiddos for 2.5 hours (and don't forget to subtract time for special classes)! We are doing Super Speedy Reading again this year. I just completed assessing my PM class and we have an average of 50 words learned. (I have introduced 61.) I can't wait to see the results for the AM class. Imagine where they might be at the end of the year!! Thank you, Chris Biffle!

I was at my wits end, feeling my blood pressure rising and dreading each day of teaching this year. After the workshop at my school I took to "Whole Brain Teaching" easily and it changed my life from dread to empowerment of my class and myself even after the first day. Now joy fills my classroom! Thanks so much. I can't wait to try The Guff Counter on my 1 difficult child.

Many, many thanks to Jeff Battle for inviting my colleague and me to observe him teaching his classes using WBT! WOW! We learned a tremendous amount and it was great being able to see the flow for the entire class period. Jeff also took the time to answer any questions we had and give suggestions. It was just a wonderful opportunity and we so appreciate it. So again, many, many thanks Jeff!

I have been using Whole Brain Teaching for about 2 years. This last week one of my students took rule 5 to a whole new level. He got the word "MATH" shaved into the back of his head. (By the way this is a student who has been a challenge for many teachers.) It just goes to show you how motivating this is for students. Thanks so much for the great resources. I have been asked about my classroom management style quite a few times and I have always been excited to give them the website information for Whole Brain Teaching. Keep up the great work!!!

YAY WBT!!!! I am so very glad I found this! I am a veteran teacher who like to spice things up, change things around and keep teaching interesting for kids.....this fits the bill and then some. I have been using whole brain teaching for 15 years. Even before.. whole brain teaching. I teach math and I use songs and mnemonic devises to help students learn better. The students' math scores have increased by 150% on average. Some students increase their learning by over 300%. I found whole brain teaching last year as I was working on the National teaching Certification. I was looking about adding discourse into my math program. I fell in love with the ideas. Sure Genius. I utilize as many ideas as I can with my class. My school system and its infinite wisdom has decided to go to common core standards, make sense. But they want every kid on their own learning plan. 80% of the day individualized instruction. That is where I differ. I believe it should be more like 70% of the day instruction and the rest in small group or individual goal setting. Any advice how to structure my day?

Praise the Lord! I have finally found a method that works and that holds students accountable! Classroom management has always been my weakest point, and I have been teaching for four years. WBT actually makes things fun! I've used Class-Yes, and Teach-Okay, and the class rules with gestures. I've even used mirror, and have gotten a lot of giggles with the rules, gestures, and mirror! :)rnrnI am slowly phasing out the OLD classroom management plan I've been using, and I am going to stick with WBT, because I have seen it WORKS, and I do not go home tired and stressed like I used to! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :)

This is my 13th year of teaching, 6th year teaching 8th grade science. Last year was the worst year I ever had. About a week before school began, I saw a reference to WBT on a NSTA listserv. I decided to try it. rnrnToday was our second day of school. Yesterday I did Class/Yes, and Teach/Okay. Today I did the scoreboard. It took me a long time to figure out what the incentive would be, but I was pleased with how the process worked. I had students shushing other students and the other students listening. They loved the Mighty Groan and the Oh Yeah.rnrnAt the end of my last class today, a student said to me, "This might be a FUN science class." She then went on to tell me that she got an F last year. rnrnI am hopeful. I was ready to quit last year.

I am so excited to be back in school planning WBT math lessons. I was skeptical at first as to how WBT would lend itself to Math! But I just designed a 6th grade lesson on Benchmark numbers. You remember your math lesson about 1/4 1/2 3/4 being equivalent to .25 .50 .75 and 25% 50% and 75%? Well, starting with a fist for zero, one finger over four fingers, 1 finger over 2 fingers, 3 fingers over 4 fingers, and 1 finger over 1 finger to show one whole, building and repeating so students memorize these important numbers. I cannot wait to try it with my students this could be taught at a lower grade this way!! AWESOME. I'll get back to you with how it went...yea

Since I was introduced to power teaching in 2009 my classroom management, teaching technique, and even student performance increased tremendously. I just followed the easy 5 classroom rules every day for the first weeks of school and my students were ready to learn at all times. The scoreboard was THE BEST it kept my students on their toes. I used the GUFF (with my two challenging students) until almost the end of the school year and I LOVE IT. In addition this past school year 2010-2011 I continued using power teaching strategies since day one. I kept rules and I added the management cards. My team teacher and I also made our own gestures for each standard we taught and we got AMAZING RESULTS. I AM SO GRATEFUL and PROUD to announce that my 2nd grade class made a huge growth of 35% in both Language Arts and Math. Further more 80% of my class scored PROFICIENT or ADVANCE in their State Test. Can I get a MIGHTY o OHHHHH YEAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!! rnThank you Cris. Thank you WBT

It's a miracle! I love whole brain teaching. I am NOT tired when I go home. I've been doing it for a few days now and it's the beginning of the school year. The kids L-O-V-E it. My daughters teacher (a 6th grade teacher down the hall from me) is also using WBT! My daughter was sitting on a hassock yesterday practicing her rules! When I said, "what are you doing" she said, "Oh just practicing my rules." It was AMAZING! I also tried it on my 2 boys who are in high school (taught them the brain!!!) THEY ATE IT UP! (ages 17 and 14 and pretty "cool" guys for that matter). This is by far the best thing I have ever done in my classroom in the past 12 years!

Back in April, an energetic little lady named Deb introduced my school to the concept of whole brain teaching. I was fascinated with her energy and all she had to say. During her presentation she let us all know that there would be a free conference this summer in Phoenix. I was elated! I couldn't wait to take part in it. I completed that conference last week and was truly moved. I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything I learned, as it was so much in such a short time, but everything was amazing! I am starting a new grade level this year and am so excited to implement all of this into my new year! It is the perfect time to do so, as everything is new to me anyway. Since the conference ended, I have worked diligently to get WBT into my classroom management plan, my homework and my lessons. Each day, I get more excited for the new year to begin. I can't wait to see how the kids will react! Coach B is an inspiration and brought me to tears on the last day with his positive energy and words. Sometimes, as teachers, we are surrounded by so much negativity. Teachers complain about the kids, the parents, the money, the principal, the meetings, the work, and so on. It's hard to stay positive when you hear this all day long! On the last day of our conference, Coach B addressed this as he said each time we hear someone complain about that stuff to give them "boo-hoo" face. We can't let these people bring us down. There was so much positive energy in that room as we vowed to do so! Coach B said "Give your kids the blessing of you." What a beautiful thing. Let's do it! Thank you Deb for introducing WBT to me, Chris for all your great ideas for my grade level and Coach B for inspiring me!

I attended Chris' conference at Simpson University in August 2010, approximately. It was phenomenal, I learned a great deal and was highly motivated. This summer I completed my final phase of student teaching in a 3/4 combo. class at Juniper Elementary School in Redding, CA. There were several things at this school that impressed me. The 1st thing was how well my master teacher had implemented wbt within her classroom setting. We both were newbies with teaching summer school. She asked me if I was familiar with Chris Biffle's wbt and I said yes. When she asked if I had ever used it, I said reluctantly, no. She went over the steps with me again, it had been awhile since the conference and refreshed me with the steps. By the end of our summer school experience, her and I had our new class fully engaged and involved with the wbt process, it was great!!! The 2nd thing that impressed me about this school was that not only was Cheryl Mathison implementing this wbt program, the entire school embraces this program. It was awesome to see an entire school as a whole implement wbt. Way to go Juniper Elementary in Redding, CA!!!

After a 25 year career in higher education and another 5 as a school psychologist, I returned to school for a Master's in Elementary Education. While struggling through my kindergarten internship (a cruel joke to play on an old man), I was desparately searching for ways to improve my classroom management skills - I found Andrea Schindler's Whole Brain Teaching video. I used a couple of Whole Brain teaching strategies in my internship and continued to study the free materials on the web site. Last week, I attended the 2011 National Conference in Pineville, LA. To make a long story short, in three days I learned more about classroom management and instructional techniques than I learned in my entire Masters program. Thanks Chris and the rest of the crew!

The National Conference in Pineville, LA was awesome! I have been using WBT for 1.5 years, partly instructed by a colleague who is using it, and partly by studying the posted videos and materials on my own. However, I have missed some key concepts. For example, since I teach music in a room adjacent to a 4th grade (testing grade in LA) class, I have had to be quiet in all my presentations, as well as keep the students quiet in their responses. I see now where this has led to the downfall of my WBT practice. Although I wouldn't have wanted to be currently jobless, my school is merging with another school in the district, and I am likely to have a different setting should I get to follow the students to the new facility. This will change EVERYTHING! I am so energized and looking forward to the fall as well as having some new-to-me tools in my arsenal to use in the summer guitar camp I am currently teaching. Taking the time off from the summer camp has been well worth it, and I am sure it will pay off in the many teaching years I have in the future!

Wow WBT is amazing! I first discovered WBT earlier this year, and have been blown away by the positive learning that is being undertaken within my classroom. We are taught in every class that we have to have classroom management but nowhere are we taught what that looks like. Finally, classroom management is here in action; right before our eyes. The same has been said about differentiated instruction to address all of Gardner's multiple intelligences but never have we been shown what these look like in a classroom or how to address these multiple intelligences. Again, it is right here. These should be required courses at all Faculties of Education and I will be recommending such to ours.

WBT is AWESOME! This summer I attended a WBT seminar in Missouri and it changed my teaching life!! This method works so well students enjoy learning. Last spring our church's children choir program (grades 3rd-6th) presented a program entitled "It's All About Jesus." During the concert/program the students performed your 40 Events of the Life of Jesus. They so quickly told the life story of Jesus (complete with gestures) to the congregation that all were amazed and blessed. I am so thrilled that they have heard all these truths and know them by heart. Your teaching methods are brilliant, and the students still remember that it truly is "All About Jesus." I'm an elementary school teacher who has been teaching for 19years in Suwon, Korea.rnI learned Power Teaching last year while I was taking my TESOL courses.rnOne of my trainers introduced video clips about Power Teaching. It was a new experience for me and I had confidence it would be effective for my classes. So I accepted the five rules and adopted some classroom management procedures like having a rewards system in my class.rnTo some degree it helps my students motivation and helps in controling my class. rnUnfortunately, I was not positive, and I didn't know the Power Teaching in detail. So I wished to learn Power Teaching more.rnrnNow I have a chance to learn Power Teaching. Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will have a special plan to improve teachers' competence in teaching. rnThey will support teachers who want to research their teaching method by having an idea contest. They will run an idea contest from December 21. rnI'm going to enter the contest with a Power Teaching Project.rnIf my plan is selected from the contest, I can have a sabbatical year and I'll visit your association. This is my first year teaching my own class. I got hired 3 days before school started and I was browsing youtube for some classroom management ideas and I came across whole brain teaching. I had my first observation from my principal last week and he was SO impressed! He told me that I was doing things in my classroom that even seasoned teachers haven't mastered!! What a compliment! He also said that there was no down time in my classroom, they always knew what I expected of them. And, my transitions were smooth! YAY FOR POWER TEACHING!!!rnrnI am out in the module of our school and my neighbor teacher can hear EVERYTHING we do. She has been teaching for over 20 years and tells me all the time that she is thankful they put me next to her because SHE is learning!! Simply put, WBT is just as fun for the students as it is for the teacher. I attended a training in July 2010 with Chris Biffle and could not wait to get back to school to use and share this great teaching tool! I am an art teacher and have primarily used the behavior management techniques of WBT and have seen incredible engagement and buy-in! I only see each class once a week, but by week 2 they had the routines, gestures, and sayings down! It has improved their attention and has maximized my teaching time!

I was tutoring a kindergarten student in his 2nd year. His reading performance, despite the second year in kindergarten, was still below grade level. I was tutoring him via the internet using ConnectPro and two web cams. His behavior was getting in the way of his learning. He had low self esteem and concluded he would never be a "reader". I began using Whole Brain Teaching for both behavior and learning sight words. In less than six weeks, he went from below level in reading and writing to satisfactory. He is now in first grade and his mother called to tell me how great he is doing! This is a wonderful program!

I was in a difficult class for my student teaching. One student in particular was very disruptive and sending him to the office every class was out of the question. I realized that I needed some serious help when I talked to other students in that class and they revealed how they hated being there because of him and his cohorts. I searched the power teaching site and found a free download explaining how to turn his behavior and his cohorts against him and take me out of the equation. I implemented the idea and it worked like a charm! Whole Brain/Power Teaching challenging kids saved my student teaching experience!

I just wanted to thank you so much for what WBT has done for myself, my colleagues and my students. I work at a school where over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged. This year I am teaching a class in which every student (all 22) has at least one diagnosed learning, physical, or psychological disability. The 5 girls and 17 boys in my class can be overwhelmingly characterized as high energy with extremely short attention spans of 30 seconds or less. You can imagine my shock the first few weeks of school. I was ready to throw in the towel! When I found WBT, I was skeptical. I didn't see how any learning could take place in a classroom with such high noise levels and exaggerated movements. How would kids be able to stay on task? At this point I was willing to try anything so I cautiously tried the WBT methods. It didn't even take a full day for me to realize that I had stumbled on a valuable teaching tool. The students in my class are now fully participating, listening, engaging, and teaching each other. Best of all.....they are finally learning, which is all I ever wanted from the very beginning. Already my school principal has observed my class and can't believe that these are the same kids from the beginning of the year. WBT has taken my classroom from a place of chaos to the place of learning that it was meant to be.

I found this by the grace of God this summer. Though I was excited about the concept I had some reservations. I decided to give it until Christmas before giving up. I was into it--hook, line, and sinker by the middle of the first day! It truly is TEACHER HEAVEN. As soon as we get paid I plan on supporting this site whole-heartedly. Thank you for this---I have not given out ONE piece of candy or reward. I learned about WBT in February 2010 and it made all the difference in my classes ever since. I could easily say I have been looking for these answers for my more than 30 years of permenence in the EFL teaching field. WBT holds all the answers for teachers' everyday heartaches in class. Chatty students, silent ones, dull ones or brilliant ones, to name a few, absolutely love it and it works for all of them. WBT also enables us to put together and make sense on a good number of techniques and approaches we have been dealing with for years, bringing new dinamics and freshness to those. It would take too long to name all the approaches and techniques that can work together with WBT, but Task-Based Teaching works fantastically with it!

I have been using WBT since Sept. of 09 and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! My kids made HUGE gains in reading and math and in their ability to acquire English. I absolutely love the ease of using WBT strategies. It is about helping them do the job they need to do when they don't feel like doing it.rnI have been using the scoreboard, class/O.K and Teach since October. It was so easy and fun introducing and practicing those approaches as games until my nine exceptional five graders mastered them. I was able to re-direct them without getting into their personal space and helped them avoid loosing face with their peers. It was easier for me to engage my students in learning using all their senses. I watched them applying themselves literarily. rnWBT few strategies that I tried on ESL students in Kuwait has doubled my productivity while cutting in half the amount of time spent repeating the lessons and /or class rules as well as cutting down the attitudes and students had no longer given me a hard time if I have caught them off task. Next year, I am planning to use crazy professor game in reading and WB writing game for writing. I am sure that they will help them become better readers and writers. Thanks WB. You are very rich with ideas that can certainly nourish the new generation brains and stimulate the worn out teachers.rn

All I can say is that WBT has really changed my classroom management. I have just finished my second year teaching and first full year using WBT. I found the website and videos during third quarter of my first year. Before that, I was searching for my identity in classroom management. Everyone has their own style and I just hadn’t found one that fit me. Then one day I literally stumbled onto one of the videos, and that was it. Since then I have been all about WBT because it works! More importantly I have fun with my students not frustrated. I’ve used WBT all year and have to say that it is perfect for me and my class.rnrnI have presented the basics of WBT to my peers. We all know teachers can be the worse audience, but every single teacher was interested and involved. Some were intently taking notes on everything and others were just having a blast as they were imagining what their kids would do. They all took something out of the presentation. In a K-8 school it’s rare to hear that everyone got something they could use right away. I think I’m still thought of as the crazy fifth grade teacher, but the more others see me do the more I hear it in their rooms. Plus I am that crazy fifth grade teacher.rn

I began teaching with WBT in mid-October because my students couldn't focus and weren't participating in class discussions. Many could not read fluently at all. I attended a conference in Missouri and began using WBT immediately. By December I had data showing an AVERAGE gain of 8 points in their NWEA/MAP scores. My year end data has many students showing gains of over 18 points. One even gained 33 points in one year! I attribute it to the gestures and the student interaction of WBT.
I am a veteran teacher of 25 years, and Whole Brain Teaching has made me feel almost as giddy as a brand new teacher! My eighth graders love the Crazy Professor Reading Game, and respond well to all of the management strategies -- believe it or not, eighth graders are not too cool to play along. I've been working on adding gestures and using mnemonics to teach 8th grade reading and writing standards, so if anybody has ideas, please let me know.

We invited parents of our incoming Kindergarten students for an informational night at school. I shared that in class, I got the students attention by saying, "Oh, Class". I instructed them that when I wanted their attention, I would say, "Oh, Parents", and they were to respond, "Oh, Yes", and glue their eyes on me. Throughout the session, as I called them to attention, they responded and we had a blast! The parents were enthused and engaged, and were excited to learn that their children would be engaged, challenged, and held accountable in a fun and respectful manner. WBT rocks!

I tried power teaching last November 2009 in my Zoology class and General science classes. My students just loved it. I hope to tell more of my co teachers about this WBT. This makes teachers ROCK !

I used the Crazy Professor for the first time today in class and it was great! I'll I had to say is that we are going to play a reading game and that got everyone's attention. Some of the students were a little shy, nervous, or unsure of what gestures to make, but everyone was engaged and had a good time. They even clapped at the end.rnrnThanks for these WONDERFUL ways of engaging students!

Background: I was the only teacher let go by my principal 2 months ago because of reasons I still am not aware of. I'm the only non-tenured teacher in my school and it's my 2nd year teaching. Our district superintendents were coming to our school a few days ago. I started power teaching a few days prior and I wanted to show my principal and superintendents what I was capable of...so in a 3 minute visit to my room they got a face-full of power teaching from 100% of my 4th graders on 6 types of triangles. It was fantastic! Their faces when I started with "Mirror!", was priceless because none of them have heard of power teaching, or seen it. My class was completely engaged and they were blown away. I was shaking as I mirrored for my students in front of my bosses, but it couldn't have gone better. Wherever I teach in the future, I want to incorporate Whole Brain Teaching into my daily management, if/when I get another chance at a teaching position.rnrnJeff
