Is there a recommended pace for how fast to go through the complexors and puzzles, or should I just progress as my kids' needs dictate?

I'm really excited about the writing game, especially since I teach 4th grade, and in Florida, that's the year for the state writing test. My biggest obstacle as the year begins is figuring out how to use the writing game effectively while at the same time using the school-mandated (too strong a word?) writing program. I don't think it will be too much of a problem because my school is a Whole Brain school, but I don't want to take a chance of stepping out of line.

I don't know the answer, but I'd love to hear how it goes once you try it!

We set up the Writing Game so that it would be as flexible as possible. Use any of the units for as long as you think valuable. However, I would start using the writing rules with the first assignment ... probably at least the first five rules ... and these should be pass or no pass ... the first rules are simple enough for any student to follow.

Here are some responses for if / when any district person asks you what you are doing with the WBT writing game:
"These activities serve as scaffolding for students who have not yet mastered ____ writing standard."
"This game is an oral planning activity for writing."
"These activities allow for my ELL (English Language Learner) students to discuss writing topics and develop organization skills prior to drafting."
"I have my students working in collaborative heterogenous groups to practice micro skills required prior to writing."

Hope this helps!
