What happens if someone's partner is absent when it is time to do any of the SuperSpeed Reading or Numbers activities? The starting point each time is shared between the two partners so they couldn't just work someone different; they'd be at different starting points. Am I missing something? Please advise.

I am not sure if I did it correct but here is what I did. I had the one student do it one or two ways. He/she could practice on their own and rehearse for the next day. Or they could help a partner pair as a three:

so one person would read, THE, then they next MY, the third WENT ....and on they would go doing it as three it just counted for the two who were normal partners.

Oh, correct me now if I am wrong!!!!!

Annette,

I have tried both ways with my kids, and either works well. It depends on the kid. If you have one who works and plays well with others, and can remained focused in the face of a disruption to their normal schedule then put them in a set of three.

If the kid is not able to stay focused so easily, then let them work on their own.

In my classroom if a students partner is absent for SS 1000, they practice on their own for that day. On the other hand, if their SS Math partner is absent we do one of two things. Either they pair with another person (who also has an absent partner), or I partner with them.

Because the SS 1000 game is designed to set and break team records, it is important that they use the same partner. However, SS Math games are designed to set and break personal records, so your partner is not a significant part of the game.

I have had a problem with absent students, too. I usually let the student have a free day, but NOW I'll tell them to practice during the session. THANKS!!
